Introduction
Course Rationale: Bangladesh was born as an independent country through a series of conflicts, struggles, and popular movements among various forces in the geographical region that once constituted British India. This course examines the sequence of events, conflicts, and struggles that ultimately led to the creation of a new nation. We do so by asking key questions: who, what, when, where, and why? Who were the individuals and groups in conflict, and why? What led to the war? Who participated in the fighting, and who provided leadership or support to each side?
